The Zoo Story May/06

“The c2c production of The Zoo Story keeps coming back to me. A low-budget, minimalist production at the Masonic Temple, this was as menacing and compelling a version of Edward Albee’s classic as I have seen, driven to its violent conclusion by the chemistry of Neil Butler’s prim Peter and Phil Churchill’s garrulous Jerry.”

Each season, c2c theatre produces a fundraiser called 4Play. Four writers get the same first line and two mandatory props and 12 hours to write a ten minute scene. Then four actors and four directors get the scripts, do their thing and the scenes hit the stage 12 hours later. 4 scenes in 24 hours. Many local artists have donated their time for this event, including: Michael Crummey, Lisa Moore, Michael Winter, Ed Riche, Robert Chafe, Lois Brown, Nicole Underhay, Bryan Hennessey, Krystin Pellerin, Joel Hynes, Didi Gillard-Rowlings, Chuck Herriott, Geraldine Hollett, Pat Boyle, Aiden Flynn, Ruth Lawrence, Gord Billard, Neil Butler, Jason Card, Steve Cochrane, Clar Doyle, Brad Hodder, Daunt Lee, Adrianna Maggs, Nicole Rousseau, Darryl Hopkins, Erin Whitney, J.M. Sullivan, Sara Tilley and Charlie Tomlinson.
“In its relatively short life c2c has gone from strength to strength. Each production has been more exciting, more professional and polished than the last…I never miss one of c2c’s productions.”
-Ed Riche
“The art of c2c theatre has brought something very important to the Newfoundland and Labrador community…They have enriched this place and exposed the local audiences to a wide, interesting and accessible world of contemporary theatre from the larger Canadian and International canon…They are seen as a new force on the theatre scene fulfilling an artistic need for a large and mostly younger segment of the theatre community who have long expressed a desire to perform important and insightful scripts from across the country and around the world.”
-Andy Jones
